Portmellon is a picturesque, small sandy cove on the south coast of the Cornish Riviera.
It is situated on the coastal path between the fishing harbour of Mevagissey and the 13th century village of Gorran Haven.
The safe, east-facing sandy beach is approximately 150 metres long and is completely covered at high tide.
There is a public slipway and an old boatyard as well as the quaint ‘Rising Sun Inn’.
During the summer months tasty lunches/cakes can be purchased from The Shack in Portmellon car park and kayaks and paddle boards can be hired from The Paddle Shed for a fun day on the sea.
In the stormy weather the houses on the seafront have to close their shutters against the storms which are spectacular to watch – from a distance!
This quiet bay is popular with those who want to launch their small boats or kayaks as well as the local diving school who use the cove to practise their skills.
Occasionally seals, dolphins or even basking sharks have been known to frequent the area as well as some beautiful, and unusual, birds.
A lovely, peaceful base for a holiday or short break offering breath-taking countryside and coastal views of the headland of Chapel Point and beyond.
